The Parks & Recreation Department is committed to enriching the quality of life through exceptional programs, parks, and other facilities, while preserving the community’s natural environment for the enjoyment of our citizens.  The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for:

  • City parks and playgrounds
  • Sports and fitness facilities
  • Recreation centers/swimming pools
  • Egans Creek Greenway
  • Amelia Island Lighthouse
  • Bosque Bello Cemetery
  • Landscaping of Historic Downtown
  • Special events permits
  • Bicycling brochure and map

The Department also offers or co-sponsors various adult and youth sports and activities; aquatics programs and scuba instruction; youth afterschool programs and summer camps; senior programs; instructed programs; and special events.

Financial assistance is available for City-sponsored programs to any City resident that meets the financial criteria.  Anyone interested should call the Atlantic Center Administrative Office at 904-310-3350 for more information.

Maharaj Tennis Services - Upcoming Events at Central Park Tennis Courts
The City's contracted tennis instruction vendor - Maharaj Tennis Services - has two upcoming events for junior tennis players in January:
  • 10 & Under Open House.  Saturday, January 21st.  This free clinic is for children ages 4-10 who are interested in playing tennis.  All equipment will be provided.  Pre-registration is required.
  • January Junior Round Robin.  Saturday, January 28th.  Three divisions:  10U, 12U, and 14U.  Registration fee:  $12/player.

Spring Adult Softball Leagues' Registration
January 30th - February 3rd:  $360 team registration fee
February 6th - 10th:  $385 team registration fee
Two-game refundable forfeit fee:  $72, due February 17th

Recreational Co-ed League (Mondays) and Men's Recreational "Hit Our Stick" League (Thursdays) offered.

Youth sports associations' spring leagues' registrations
The City of Fernandina Beach co-sponsors local youth sports associations who conduct their own registrations for seasonal leagues and utilize City facilities for their respective sports.  Spring leagues' registrations information below:

  • Amelia Island Youth Soccer Club (soccer):  Register online now through February 1st at  Ages 3 - 19. 
  • Elm Street Little League (baseball and fastpitch softball):  Register at the MLK, Jr. Recreation Center Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:00pm.  Ages 9-12 for baseball; ages 9-15 for fastpitch softball.  $50 for first child, $10 for additional sibling.  Email for more information.
  • Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth League (baseball):  Register online now through January 22nd at  Ages 4 - 16 as of May 1, 2017.
  • Fernandina Beach Pop Warner Association (flag football):  On-site registration (1101 Beech Street) on the following dates:  January 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th from 10:00am-12:00pm; and February 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Age groups:   5-7; 8-10; 11-12; 13-14.  $75/player.  Visit for more information.    

Parks Master Plan
October 20, 2015: The City Commission adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This plan is directed by the City's Comprehensive Plan in the Recreation and Open Space Element.

Parks & Recreation Department Improvements for 2016 - 2017
With the City's new fiscal year now in effect, several improvements are planned for the Parks & Recreation Department.  Several of these improvements will be of great service to our citizens, including:

  • Construction of a band shell at Main Beach Park for special events
  • Re-surface the Main Beach Multi-Purpose Court
  • Installation of new flooring in the MLK, Jr. Recreation Center Auditorium
  • Expansion of the MLK, Jr. Recreation Center youth camp area
  • Replacement of the shade structure at the Atlantic Pool
  • Installation of LED sports lighting on the soccer fields at the Fernandina Beach Athletic Complex

City Resident Verification Cards
In order to receive City resident rates for pool (Atlantic and MLK, Jr. Pools) or fitness (Atlantic Fitness Room and Peck Gym) use, patrons must show City Resident Verification Cards.  Applications for cards are available at the Atlantic Recreation Center and Peck Gym or download application here.  Proof of residency (driver’s license, City water bill) required.  First card is free; additional or lost cards are $1.00 each.  Please allow 1-5 business days for cards to be produced.  Cards must be renewed September 30th of each year.

NOTE:  Active and retired U.S. military receive City resident rates on all applicable department programs with valid military identification

Fitness Center
This workout facility at the Atlantic Recreation Center possesses all of the equipment you need for a total body workout.  The price is right, whether paying daily or monthly fees, and there are NO initiation fees and NO contracts.  Personal training with a certified trainer is available.  If you're ready to get in shape, this facility will meet all of your fitness needs.
