Police Chaplains
Police chaplains have volunteered for service in Fernandina Beach since the Rev. Ed Kelly began his tenure in 1981 and have continued service for more than 30 years. The police chaplains are available to provide counsel to police officers and their families in time of need as well as to assist community members involved in traumatic situations.

Chaplain Don McFadyen
Don McFadyen was nominated by Captain Jim Coe in 2006 for special recognition and was a finalist for the award of International Police Chaplain of the Year. McFadyen is a trained Steven Minister and a deacon at First Presbyterian Church with 11 years of service to the city.

Rev. Edwin Shick
The Rev. Edwin Shick of the Assembly of God Church has the longest tenure, 16 years, serving seven chiefs of police and eight city managers. Pastor Shick runs the Little House Ministry for the homeless and was one of the initial participants in the "Pastors on Patrol" program created by former Police Chief Robert “Chip” Hammond and Senior Chaplain Donald McFadyen in 2001.
