[ARCHIVED] Elevation Certificates required

New requirement for 500yr/0.2% flood zone per ordinance 2019-26

June 25, 2020

Bulletin F-01-2020

To:            All Contractors

From:        Stephen Beckman, CBO, CFM

Subject:    Elevation Certificate Reviews and requirements

This notice is intended to provide clarification on Elevation Certificates, where needed and how they are reviewed.

  • Elevation Certificates are required for all flood zones, including the 500yr/0.2%. They are now required in this zone since the Flood Plain Ordinance 2019-26 now regulates the elevation in this flood zone to match the requirements for the neighboring A zone. The E.C. is the only official way to document compliance.
  • As of this FEMA CRS (Community Rating System) cycle, the City is graded on accuracy of these certificates. All required information must be provided in the EXACT format required by FEMA. Since our Flood Class rating is dependent on how well we do with these certificates, they will be closely scrutinized. Each item which requires data imputed on the form must be of a very specific format. We strongly suggest asking for a checklist from the Building Department.
